Kyrgyzstan, land of mountains, oasis of lakes and pastures overlooking the great steppes of Central Asia, offers exceptional landscapes, inhabited by horses and wildlife. With KirghizAsia, you’ll discover distant routes once used by caravans of the Silk Road; you’ll wander around rural habitats with pastoral yurts, while always staying close to the locals’ daily life, which has remained intact for centuries.

Jour 1: Vol
Day 1: International flight to Kyrgyzstan




Day 2: Bishkek
Manas airport pick-up and transfer to Bishkek. Rest up at your host’s house. Visit of Bishkek: the town is a mix of Soviet architecture and large green spaces. Tour of the Osh Grand Bazaar: its small lively streets, its traditionally made goods and the mix of cultures, between Chinese specialties and Middle Eastern dried fruit.

Day 3: Karakol  
Drive to Karakol along the north side of the Issyk-Kul Lake (a 5-hour drive). Stop to visit the Burana Tower, minaret dating from the 11th century.

Day 4: Karakol
Visit of the city: The Prejivalskii museum, the orthodox Church and Dungan Mosk. Picnic and walk around the surrounding mountains in the afternoon.

Day 5: Eshperov
In the morning, we’ll drive to Jeti-Oguz, the red canyons called « Seven Bulls». Small hike in the Valley of Flowers. In the afternoon, we’ll drive to Kizil-Tou, a village renown for its yurt craftsmen. There, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about how yurts are made.

Day 6: Horseback riding
That day, we'll ride by another pass (altitude: 3400m). We'll have a picnic around the Boru-Kotboz glacial lake. After crossing the pass, we'll go down the Kichi-Japrtmakty Valley.

Day 7: Horseback riding
We’ll continue our ride on the Uzun-Kya mountain ridges. At the top of the mountain, you'll be able to admire the view over the Toktogul region: a large valley with a lake in the middle.

Day 8 : Horseback riding
We'll go down the Toktogul Valley. You'll leave the fresh air of the mountain and feel the dry and arid heat of the valley where the kings of Scythia were buried 3-2 centuries B.C. The family hostess whose house you’ll be staying in, is a French teacher at the village school. She also heads an NGO focused on the development of traditional Kyrgyz crafts. There, you’ll have a chance to discover traditional Kyrgyz carpets.

Day 9: Horseback riding
Discover the art of traditional Kyrgyz crafts with the Jash-Muun NGO, which will show you how Kyrgyz felt and carpets called “Chirdak” are made. In the afternoon, you can rest and swim in the Toktogul Lake, which you can reach by bike.

Day 10: Kizart 
Drive to Kizart, a village located at the foot of the Son-Kol mountains. The drive will take you alongside the Kokomerene River, which flows into a beautiful ochre-red canyon.

Day 11: Horseback riding
We'll go up to the Son-Kol Lake (a 6-7 hour hike) crossing the Kilemché Valley. Arriving at the Jalguiz Karagaï Pass, a breathtaking scenery will be right in front of you.

Day 12: Horseback riding
We'll ride on horseback around the Son-Kol Lake (altitude: 3015m). You'll discover the nomadic life of the Kyrgyz people.

Day 13: Horseback riding
Using a different route, we'll go back down to the village of Kizart. In the afternoon, we'll take the road to the Issik-Kul Lake.

Day 14: Issik-Kul
Rest by the Issyk-Kul Lake, a peaceful place surrounded by red canyons. Admire the magnificent view of the snowy mountains of Terskei Ala-Too. In the evening, gather around the fire.

Day 15: Bishkek
Drive back to Bishkek. On the way, we’ll stop in Bourana, minaret dating from the Karahan Kingdom (11th century). Farewell dinner at a traditional restaurant.

Transfer to the airport

A qualified English-speaking Kyrgyz guide and a person who’ll care for the horses will be leading the trip. Horses will be carrying the luggage during the hike.

On location: Good command of horses in an outdoor environment (4-6 hours horseback riding/day). Must know how to saddle, trot, and gallop in a group.

All transfers are made by minibus and car.

Climate : In Kyrgyzstan, the climate is continental. Summers are hot (30 to 42°C) and winters are cold (-10 to -25°C). In the winter, temperatures vary from 0 to 10°C during the day and -5 to -25 °C at night.

What to bring:
- for day trips, a small backpack for your personal belongings
- One piece of luggage per person which will be stored in the minibus
- 1 sleeping bag (warm enough to accommodate low temperatures) and 1 air mattress.
- Warm clothes for our evenings spent in the mountains
- Lighter clothes like shorts and pants for warmer weather and raincoat
-A spare pair of shoes (sneakers or comfortable sandals)
- One 1-liter flask
- Hat, sunglasses, sun block
- Flashlight
- Toiletries
- Fanny pack for your papers and other personal belongings
- basic first-aid kit : anti-blister lotion, pills for small intestinal problems, disinfectant, antalgic.The guide will bring an emergency first-aid kit with him.

Please note that it is the traveler’s responsibility to let KyrgyzAsia know of any medical condition (allergies, specific medical history, response to certain drugs etc.) before the beginning of the trip and to take, if necessary, the corresponding medication before traveling.

Formalities :
Passport must be valid at least 6 months after the return date of your trip. Visa can be obtained at the Bishkek airport upon arrival. No mandatory vaccination. However, we recommend that your tetanus boosters are up to date.
